]]>The investigation found that irregularities occurred during the horsepower output testing for the certification of three diesel engine models for automobiles that Toyota had commissioned to TICO. During certification testing, the horsepower output performance of engines was measured using ECUs with software that differed from that used for mass production so that results could be measured to make values appear smoother with less variation. Ten vehicle models are using the affected engines globally, including six in Japan.
Toyota has re-verified the mass-produced products manufactured at the plant and confirmed that the affected engines and vehicles meet engine performance output standards. Therefore, there is no need to stop using the affected engines or vehicles. However, Toyota deeply apologizes to its customers who have been supporting affected vehicles and waiting for a long time, and also to all other stakeholders for the significant inconvenience and concern that this has caused.
Based on the results of the investigation, TICO decided to temporarily suspend shipments of the affected engines. Toyota has also decided to temporarily suspend shipments of vehicles equipped with the affected engines. Going forward, Toyota will provide detailed explanations to the authorities and promptly proceed with appropriate measures, including conducting testing in the presence of witnesses if appropriate.
Certification consists of having the national authorities inspect and confirm in advance that vehicles meet various standards so that customers can drive their vehicles with peace of mind. Toyota considers the appropriate process of certification to be a major prerequisite for doing business as an automobile manufacturer. It recognizes the gravity of the fact that the repeated certification irregularities at TICO, following those at Daihatsu, have shaken the very foundations of the company as an automobile manufacturer.
TICO has informed that they will start by providing detailed explanations to authorities regarding these findings and proceed with measures under their guidance in the hopes of regaining the trust of customers and other stakeholders as a manufacturer worthy of certification.
In addition, restructuring the relevant business will require a change in the mindset of all individuals, from management to employees, as well as a drastic reform of corporate culture. Such tasks cannot be accomplished overnight. Hence, as the party responsible for transferring the diesel engine business, Toyota will continue to provide support toward the revitalization of TICO's engine business.
Furthermore, as the commissioner of these tests, Toyota regrets that it was not sufficiently attentive and aware of the fact that the procedures were not carried out in accordance with laws and regulations. Going forward, Toyota will be involved in all company-wide activities to help rebuild TICO and review the situation to thoroughly ensure that safety and quality are the top priorities.

The Toyota Innova Crysta Ambulance package is basically a dealership-level modification that packs in an oxygen cylinder, stretcher and other basic medical aids that are required while transporting patients to hospitals. As the Crysta is a spacious vehicle, its third-row and half of the middle-row have been removed to accommodate the foldable stretcher and other medical equipment. Also, the floor has seen some revisions to help one easily mount a stretcher. There's even been an inclusion of a side-facing bench seat for the paramedics. A plastic sheet separates the medical compartment from the front row.
Outside, the Toyota Innova Crysta Ambulance bears a handful of minor modifications that are typically found on ambulance vans. Other than the handful of decals to announce the special status of the MPV, there's even a siren and flashers mounted on the roof. The customizations sported by this MPV are similar to those seen on the MG Hector Ambulances that were donated by the carmaker last year.
It is worth a mention here that around a year ago, Toyota Indonesia donated Innova-based Ambulances to the Indonesian Red Cross and the Ministry of Health to aid in the fight against the COVID-19 outbreak. It is, however, for the first time that similar ambulances based on the updated MPV have been prepared.

The new Innova Crysta has received several cosmetic updates such as a larger front grille, chrome work for the headlamps, new LED DRLs, revised front bumper with tweaked fog lamps and blacked-out chin section with a faux silver skid plate. Toyota has also included a set of 16-in silver alloy wheels which are available in a diamond-cut finish on select trims. A prominent black hexagonal section that has been placed between the taillights and extends as far down as the licence plate area is the addition at the rear of the 2021 Toyota Innova Crysta.
The interior of the Toyota Innova Crysta facelift gets a new instrument cluster design and an all-black cabin theme. For the seating arrangement, there is a 6-seat layout with captain chairs in the middle. Toyota is expected to offer a 7-seat version as well.
While the new Innova Crysta would get a new engine option for the overseas market, it is unlikely for the company to provide the same for its Indian customers because Toyota updated the Innova Crysta models to meet the BS6 emission regulations only a few months ago. So we will continue to get the 2.4L diesel mill that is capable of producing 150 hp and a 2.7L petrol motor which churns out 166 hp. For the transmission, there would be a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed torque converter on offer.

]]>The overall silhouette of the 2021 Toyota Innova Crysta facelift remains identical to that of the current-gen model. However, the company has given numerous cosmetic updates, especially at the front, to make the new MPV that much more desirable.
The new Innova Crysta flaunts a slightly larger front grille with noticeable chrome highlights. Toyota has also included the chrome work for the headlamps. We also have a set of new LED DRLs. For enhanced sportiness, the front bumper features a blacked-out chin section with a faux silver skid plate. Toyota has also redesigned the front fog lamps.
The updated Innova Crysta will come equipped with new 16-inch alloy wheels that are finished in silver. They will also available in a diamond-cut finish on select trims. The rear end of the 2021 Toyota Innova Crysta facelift remains more or less unchanged. However, there is a prominent black hexagonal section that has been placed between the taillights and extends as far down as the licence plate area.
Toyota has not altered the interior of the 2021 Innova Crysta facelift quite much. We do see a new instrument cluster design. An all-black theme has been used for the cabin. For the seating arrangement, there is a 6-seat layout with captain chairs in the middle. Toyota is expected to offer a 7-seat version as well.
It is being speculated that for the 2021 Innova Crysta facelift, Toyota is likely to continue using the current set of engine options. So, there would be a 2.4L diesel mill with 150 hp on tap and a 2.7L petrol motor with 166 hp. For the transmission, there would be a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed torque converter on offer.

]]>In its current BS-VI avatar the car starts at INR 15.66 lakh* for petrol variants and INR 16.44 lakh* for the diesel variants. The CNG variants are expected to be placed below the petrol powertrain with less features and focus on fuel efficiency. The bi-fuel CNG variant was recently spotted while testing.
The car, which was spotted on National Highway 8 around Gurugram in Haryana, resembled the outgoing version. The car spotted was the lower-spec GX trim, evident from missing features like LED projector headlamps, fog lamps, chrome door handles, chrome window line, chrome inserts on the radiator grille, and the 17-inch alloy wheels that come standard on the top-spec trim.
Speaking of the powertrain, the car is expected to be based on the variant with the 2.7-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine. It delivers a peak power output of 166 PS and 245 Nm of max torque. Transmission options on the petrol version come in the form of either a 5-speed MT or a 6-speed AT.
As the CNG powertrain is expected to be on the lower variants, it is least likely to have the AT option. At the moment, the car currently rivals the Mahindra Marazzo in the domestic market, which will soon be making its way into the showrooms with a BS-VI engine. The CNG version of the Innova Crysta is most likely to go on sale by Diwali this year.
