TVS Jupiter Gets TVS intelliGO Technology - What is it All About? https://indianautosblog.com/tvs-jupiter-tvs-intelligo-technology-details-p322524 Sat, 06 Feb 2021 09:15:29 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=322524 The TVS Jupiter comes with several features that make it an interesting buy. For example, it has a large under-seat storage space, external fuel filler cap, iTouch start function, sturdy metal body, large leg space, semi-digital instrument cluster, 3-step adjustable rear suspension, and much more. Now, to make the Jupiter even a better proposition, TVS Motor Company has added a new feature - TVS intelliGo. So, what is this latest technological addition all about?

Tvs Intelligo In Tvs Jupiter

TVS intelliGO Technology

It is basically an automatic start/stop system that we have already seen in other two-wheelers from different brands such as Hero MotoCorp and Honda. Its primary purpose is to enhance the overall fuel efficiency of the vehicle. Thus, at the end of the day, TVS intelliGO is easy on your pocket and kinder to the environment.

Also Read: TVS NTorq 125 Fuel Economy Test - Can it Reach 50km/l Mark? [Video]

Looking at it from a different perspective, it can also be categorised as a convenient feature. It enhances rider comfort by automatically switching off the engine when the scooter is left idle for a few seconds in situations like a traffic signal and/or other transient stops. The two-wheeler is again ready to go as soon as the throttle is twisted slightly. Thus, TVS intelliGO eliminates pressing of the ignition or self-start button in the aforementioned scenarios.

TVS Jupiter with TVS intelliGO Technology

Unfortunately, the new TVS intelliGO Technology is only available with the ZX disc variant of the scooter as of now. TVS Motor Company is asking nothing extra for it which is quite applaudable. So, to buy the Jupiter ZX Disc with TVS intelliGO, you will need to shell out INR 72,347 (ex-showroom, Delhi). No other changes have been implemented in the scooter.

Tvs Intelligo Logo

What are your opinions about TVS intelliGO and other similar technologies that can be found in other two-wheelers? Do you think it’s an added advantage and really acts as a convenient feature or it just intervenes with the rider’s inputs? Let us know in the comment section below.

Along with the front disc brake, the new TVS Jupiter ZX also gets i-Touchstart technology and all-in-one lock mechanism.

However, that is not the only feature that has been added in the new Jupiter. The TVS Jupiter ZX disc brake variant also gets the company’s i-Touchstart technology. It is essentially a silent start system which we have already seen in other scooters such as the Honda Activa 6G.

Apart from the two aforementioned features, the new TVS Jupiter ZX disc brake variant also comes with an all-in-one ignition lock mechanism. It basically combines the ignition, steering lock, seat lock, and fuel tank cap opener into a single system. It is cleaner to look at, easier to operate, and should be treated as a welcoming feature by a large number of customers.

The range-topping variant of the Jupiter series has been removed from the company’s official website.

Tvs Jupiter Grande Edition
The TVS Jupiter Grande received its last update in September 2019.

The TVS Jupiter Grande received its last update in September 2019. The highlight of the update was the inclusion of the Bluetooth-enabled instrument cluster to lure in more customers. Considering that, the Jupiter Grande is still a fresh product and in all the likeliness, its discontinuation is only temporary, until a BS6 upgrade is ready.

TVS has already launched the BS6 versions of the other Jupiter models. The TVS Jupiter BS6 (base model) was launched in January this year along with the TVS Jupiter ZX BS6. And the TVS Jupiter Classic BS6 was launched in November last year. It’s only a matter of time when the TVS Jupiter Grande BS6 will be launched, too, perhaps, soon after the current nationwide lockdown is lifted.

The TVS Jupiter Grande is the first 110 cc scooter in the Indian market to feature a Bluetooth-enabled instrument console. The company’s SmartXConnect Bluetooth works with a smartphone app and offers features like call and text notifications, over speeding alert, helmet reminder and more. For a premium look, the Jupiter Grande gets chrome highlights on the front fender and rearview mirror housing. It also comes with a full-LED headlight and diamond-cut alloy wheels.

The braking duties are handled by an optional front disc brake and rear drum brake with TVS’ Sync Brake System. The only variant of the Jupiter series that has not received the BS-VI upgrade is the Grande. Check out the complete price list of BS-VI TVS Jupiter series (along with BS-IV variants and their respective differences) below:

Variant BS-VI Price* BS-IV Price* Difference
Jupiter INR 61,449 INR 59,347 INR 2,102
Jupiter ZX INR 63,449 INR 59,990 INR 3,459
Jupiter Classic INR 67,911 INR 59,990 INR 7,921

As seen above, the base variant of the Jupiter has received a marginal rise of INR 2,102, while the Jupiter Classic is the most affected with an increase of INR 7,921 during the BS-VI transition. The base version of the Jupiter series features relatively lower-spec hardware that comprises a halogen headlight. The ZX and the Classic variants, on the other hand, use LED headlamp. The setup is identical to that of its direct rival, the Honda Activa 6G.

The mechanical upgrade, as on all BS-VI compliant two-wheelers, include a fuel-injection system that replaces carburettor tech. Equipped with the EcoThrust fuel-injection technology, TVS Motor Company promises 15% improvement in the fuel-efficiency over the old (BS-IV) version.

The BS-VI 109.7 cc engine of TVS Jupiter range produces a maximum power of 5.5 kW (7.50 PS) at 7,000 rpm. The BS-IV 109.7 cc engine of the scooter develops a maximum power of 5.88 kW (7.99 PS) at 7,500 rpm.

While the engine has received an upgrade, the hardware specifications such as shock absorption setup and the braking department have remained unchanged. Thus, the shock absorption tasks are handled by telescopic forks at the front and a single spring at the back. Anchoring department includes drum brakes on both wheels, but the premium variants are available with a front disc as an option.

TVS releases first teaser of its upcoming electric scooter https://indianautosblog.com/tvs-releases-first-teaser-its-upcoming-electric-scooter-p319518 Wed, 22 Jan 2020 14:30:45 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=319518 TVS has released a teaser of its upcoming electric scooter, which it will likely unveil at the press conference it has scheduled on 25 January 2020. The teaser video shows a wall-mounted charger with a blurred scooter zooming ahead in the background.

The electric scooter appears to be shaped like any conventional automatic scooter available in the market. Two similar prototypes were recently seen near the company’s Hosur campus during test rounds. The Chennai-based manufacturer had earlier showcased a concept electric scooter, the TVS Creon, at Auto Expo 2018. However, we do not expect the production version to carry the same name.

We expect TVS’s first electric scooter to be fitted with SmartXonnect instrument console seen first in the TVS NTorq 125. Besides that, the scooter will also offer premium features like an LED headlamp, ride modes, regenerative braking and a supporting smartphone application. A fast charger allowing 0-80% charging in just an hour is also expected to be offered. Other features in the production version of the upcoming TVS electric scooter riding modes, reverse mode and a supporting smartphone application.

The TVS Creon electric scooter was showcased with three lithium-ion batteries and a 12 kW (16.32 PS) electric motor. The company claimed a range of 80 km and a 0-60 km/h acceleration time of 5.1 seconds for this concept.

While details about the upcoming TVS electric scooter are scarce, several rumours suggest that it will share several parts with the TVS Jupiter to keep development costs under check. This will also allow TVS to price it competitively.

TVS Creon Concept front left quarter at 2018 Auto Expo
The TVS Creon boasted of a 12 kW electric motor and a range of 80 km.

The production version of TVS Creon concept will compete with the likes of Chetak and Ather 450. However, we wouldn’t be surprised if the TVS Creon undercuts the pricing of its competition as it is expected to be an entry-level offering.

BS-VI Honda Activa 6G vs. BS-VI TVS Jupiter - Specs, Features & Prices compared https://indianautosblog.com/bs-vi-honda-activa-6g-vs-bs-vi-tvs-jupiter-specs-features-prices-compared-p319461 Sun, 19 Jan 2020 02:07:02 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=319461 The recently launched Honda Activa 6G packs several mechanical as well as cosmetic updates including some features that were long-coming. It is INR 8,000 more expensive than the Honda Activa 5G. Here’s a low down on how the BS-VI Honda Activa 6G differs from the BS-VI TVS Jupiter Classic.

Honda Acitva 6g Vs Bs Vi Tvs Jupiter Classic
The Honda Activa with its newly gained features is more evenly matched with the TVS Jupiter.

Design and dimensions

While the TVS Jupiter Classic gained only a new colour (Indi Blue) with its BS-VI upgrade, the Honda Activa has received a refreshed design as well.

The latter features a newly designed front apron along with new chrome and black plastic inserts and a sharper front fender, however, the Jupiter does not lag behind on that front. It is offered in 6 colours, including a new Glitter Blue Metallic shade.

Honda Acitva 6g Vs Bs Vi Tvs Jupiter Classic Front
The Honda Activa 6G and TVS Jupiter Classic follow a conservative design philosophy, but the latter has several retro-styled cues like chrome rear-view mirrors and bar end weights.

Honda claims that the Activa 6G has the best-in-class ground clearance of 171 mm, 18 mm more than the Activa 5G. The scooter also boasts of a bigger floor mat area of 260 mm (up by 23 mm), which gives it improved load-bearing capability. However, the 15 mm longer wheelbase of the TVS Jupiter (1,275 mm) will help it offer a more comfortable and stable ride.

The BS-VI TVS Jupiter, though, is offered with a tinted visor and a dual-tone seat. Besides that, the pillion grabrail comes with an integrated pillion backrest, a feature not offered by the Honda Activa.

Specification Honda Activa 6G TVS Jupiter Classic BS-VI

Cycle Parts

Honda Acitva 6g Vs Bs Vi Tvs Jupiter Classic Side
While the Honda Acitva has gained a front telescopic fork, it still misses out on alloy wheels.

Thanks to the recent changes, the Honda Activa finally comes with a telescopic fork at the front, a feature which has been always been available in the TVS Jupiter Classic and that too as standard. However, the Honda Activa comes with 3-step adjustability for preload in the rear spring. This feature has percolated to the 110 cc Activa from the more premium Activa 125. It will allow customers to make their ride comfortable based on their needs. The BS-VI TVS Jupiter Classic, though, misses out on an adjustable rear suspension.

Both the scooters also come with a 12-inch front wheel. While the Honda Activa 6G, just like the model it replaces, features a 10-inch rear wheel, the Jupiter Classic has a 12-inch rear wheel. The TVS Jupiter Classic features alloy wheels, while the Honda Activa 6G is available with only steel wheels. The latter does benefit from a wider, 100 mm rear tyre.

The Honda Activa boasts 3-step adjustable rear suspension and best-in-class ground clearance.

As for the braking setup, the TVS Jupiter is better with a combination of a 220 mm disc brake at the front and a 130 mm drum brake at the rear. The Honda Activa 6G features 130 mm drum brakes.

Features

Honda Acitva 6g Vs Bs Vi Tvs Jupiter Classic Front
The TVS Jupiter Classic is shod with 12-inch wheels at both ends, while the Honda Activa 6G gets a 12-inch front wheel and a 10-inch rear wheel.

The TVS Jupiter has been one of the most value for money offerings in the segment. However, the Honda Activa has negated TVS Jupiter Classic’s biggest advantage of an external fuel filler cap now. Also, the operation for opening the external fuel filler cap is easily controlled by a two-in-one switch next to the key slot in the Honda Activa 6G. The TVS Jupiter’s external fuel cap can be operated by the ignition key.

The TVS Jupiter Classic received an LED headlamp with its BS-VI upgrade, a feature that has been available in the Honda Activa since 2018.

As for the instrumentation, the Honda offering is better in this comparo, thanks to a semi-digital console. The TVS scooter does have an old-school mode indicator (eco and power modes) to help identify the best riding style for maximum efficiency. Moreover, it also includes a USB charging port in the front panel and a handy cubby hole to store knick-knacks.

Engine

Honda Acitva 6g Vs Bs Vi Tvs Jupiter Classic Side
Honda claims that the new Activa 6G returns 10% more mileage than the outgoing model.

The Honda Activa 6G is powered by a 110 cc air-cooled mill which produces 7.79 PS of power and 8.79 Nm of torque. TVS though is yet to reveal the power figures of the BS-VI compliant Jupiter Classic. The BS-IV compliant Jupiter Classic's 109.7 cc engine produced 8 PS of power and 8.4 Nm of torque. Expect the performance figures of the BS-VI version to be close.

Both the powerplants are fitted with fuel injection. The Honda Activa 6G trumps the TVS Jupiter Classic in this aspect, with the inclusion of an ACG starter for silent starts as well as eSTT (enhanced smart tumble technology) for improved combustion and fuel efficiency.

Prices

Honda Acitva 6g Vs Bs Vi Tvs Jupiter Classic Rear
The TVS Jupiter Classic has a 220 mm disc brake at the front, while the Honda Activa 6G settles for a 130 mm drum brake there.

The 2020 Honda Activa 6G is priced at INR 63,912* in the Standard variant and at INR 65,412* in the Deluxe variant. In comparison, the BS-VI TVS Jupiter Classic is priced at INR 67,911*. Cheaper BS-VI TVS Jupiter scooters are expected to be launched in the near future, with simpler styling and lesser equipment.

TVS has started to dispatch the BS-VI compliant models of the Apache RTR 160 4V (pictured), RTR 200 4V and the Jupiter Classic.

The Hosur-based two-wheeler brand launched the BS-VI compliant Apache RTR 160 4V, Apache RTR 200 4V and the Jupiter Classic in November 2019 at ex-showroom price tags of INR 99,950*, INR 1.24 lakh* and INR 67,911* respectively.

The updated TVS Apache RTR 160 4V and the RTR 200 4V pack a revised front fascia that now features a full LED headlight with a revised design for the LED DRLs. The instrument console retains the design from the BS-IV model, although the RTR 200 4V now benefits from TVS SmartXonnect Bluetooth connectivity. The RTR 160 4V may get the feature in the future, although TVS is yet to confirm the details.

The engine specifications of the Apache RTR 200 4V BS-VI include a 197.75 cc oil-cooled, 4-valve motor that makes 20.5 PS of power (identical to the BS-IV carburettor model) and 16.8 Nm of torque (down from 18.1 Nm). The single-cylinder engine is paired with a five-speed transmission that features a slipper clutch function. The motorcycle is now available in a single variant – fuel-injection and rear disc brake. The safety net comprises dual-channel ABS with rear lift-off protection.

The BS-VI TVS Apache RTR 160 4V uses a 159.7 cc single-cylinder oil-cooled engine that churns out 16.02 PS (down from 16.80 PS) of peak power and 14.2 Nm (down from 14.8 Nm) of maximum torque. The RTR 160 4V misses the slipper clutch function. The safety net on the lower displacement 4V series model includes a single-channel ABS. The rear lift-off protection tech is not available on the RTR 160 4V.

The Jupiter Classic BS-VI benefits from fuel injection technology as well, although the company has not revealed the performance numbers for the scooter. The BS-IV compliant model, for reference, was tuned to draw 8 PS of power and 8.4 Nm of torque from its 109.7 cc single-cylinder, air-cooled motor.

The test mule was photographed at Krishnagiri Highway that is about 80 km away from the TVS Hosur plant in Tamil Nadu.

While the details are scarce, we believe that the new TVS Rockz 125 will not come to the Indian market. Instead, TVS is most likely testing the export-spec version before it goes into production. The vehicle is already available for sale in several South-East Asian markets like Indonesia.

In terms of design, the overall silhouette is identical to the model that is currently available for sale. There are, however, a few tweaks to the design to give it a refreshed look. The apron-mounted front indicators, for example, are noticeably different from the units of the existing version. The creases on the apron of the test mule, too, are noticeably sharper than the current model. The panel that connects to the front apron and spreads across the side of the vehicle has received a few styling upgrades as well.

The cockpit isn’t fully visible in the spy photographs, although the design of the cover appears to be identical to the model that is currently available on sale. The side panel and the tail section look nearly identical on both the versions. The test mule, however, was seen with a luggage rack at the back. The exhaust canister on the test mule is also different from the model that is listed on the company’s Indonesian website.

The current TVS Rockz 125 employs a 125 cc single-cylinder, air-cooled, SOHC engine that pumps out 9.8 BHP of peak power at 7,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 9.8 Nm at 5,500 rpm. The motor is paired with a 4-speed gearbox.

Anchoring hardware of the test mule comprises drum brakes on both wheels, although the scooter is listed with a disc brake on TVS Motor Company’s Indonesian website. The vehicle that is listed on the Indonesian website is equipped with gas-charged rear suspension, although the setup is missing on the test mule.

TVS Jupiter Classic BS-VI launched at INR 67,911 https://indianautosblog.com/tvs-jupiter-classic-bs-vi-launched-at-inr-67-911-p319023 Thu, 28 Nov 2019 06:15:44 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=319023 TVS has launched the BS-VI-compliant version of the Jupiter Classic. The scooter is claimed to be 15% more fuel-efficient than the outgoing BS-IV version. The new TVS Jupiter Classic BS-VI is priced at INR 67,911 (ex-showroom, Delhi), which is a hike of INR 7,921 over the BS-IV version.

Tvs Jupiter Bs Vi Front Three Quarter
TVS Jupiter Classic BS-VI gains a new colour, fuel-injection and 15% more mileage over the outgoing BS-IV version.

The single biggest change has been on the engine front. Moving away from the age carburettor, TVS introduced fuel-injection in the Jupiter family. Called as EcoThrust fuel-injection, the technology is said to create an ideal balance between performance and fuel economy. This fuel-injection technology is different than the race-tuned fuel-injection system found in the new 2020 TVS Apache RTR 160 4V and 2020 TVS Apache RTR 200 4V.

Apart from fuel-injection, TVS has also introduced USB charging in the front panel, along with a cubby hole for storing the rider’s phone. Other features in the TVS Jupiter Classic include a dual-tone seat and a pillion grab rail with an integrated rear backrest for the passenger. Also, the clear front visor has been replaced with a tinted unit.

TVS has added a new Indi Blue colour option to the TVS Jupiter Classic BS-VI. The previously available colour options of Sunlit Ivory and Autumn Brown will continue to be on offer.

Interestingly, TVS has not revealed the performance figures of the Jupiter Classic BS-VI. The old BS-IV compliant 109.7 cc engine produces 8 PS of power and 8.4 Nm of torque. We expect the new BS-VI compliant mill to produce a slightly lesser amount of power and torque.

TVS sold 74,560 units of the Jupiter in October 2019. Between the month of April to October 2019, 4,27,224 new Jupiter customers were added which is down from the 5,13,112 units the company sold during the same months last year.

Tvs Jupiter Bs Vi Side Profile
TVS has increased the prices of the Jupiter Classic by just INR 7,921 for the updated BS-VI compliant motor.

TVS Motor Company has also confirmed that they will be launching the BS-VI compliant version of the Base, ZX and Grande variants of the Jupiter in a phased manner.

In this post, we detail all the differences between the old and new versions.

Styling and features

The design of the 2019 Jupiter Grande is identical to the old model. Thus, buyers would find a full-LED headlight, a semi-digital instrument console, chrome accents on the front fender, diamond-cut alloy wheels and a dual-tone rearview mirror housing with chrome highlights. The saddle, too, continues to feature cross-stitch design with a shade of brown cover, while the footboard region is in the same old, beige colour. However, the 2019 iteration of the Jupiter Grande comes in new, lighter body paint – Tech Blue. The body-coloured pillion grab rail has been replaced by a silver unit on the latest version.

Bigger changes come to the cockpit, and the 2019 TVS Jupiter Grande benefits from a Bluetooth-enabled instrument console. The SmartXConnect Bluetooth system works with a smartphone app (available for both – Android and iOS devices) and offers features like call and text notifications, helmet reminder, over speeding alert and auto-reply SMS. The app also records the ride data and offers service reminders. However, unlike on the Ntorq 125, it misses turn-by-turn navigation function on the Jupiter Grande. The console also records the top- and the average speed of the scooter.

Engine, Braking and Suspension Setup

The engine is the familiar BS-IV compliant 109.7 cc air-cooled OHC engine that makes 8 PS of maximum power at 7,500 rpm and 8.4 Nm of peak torque at 5,500 rpm.

While the old TVS Jupiter Grande was available in drum brake and disc brake variants, the new TVS Jupiter Grande has been launched in exclusively the latter. The stopping power comes from a 220 mm disc brake at the front and a 130 mm disc brake at the rear. The safety net comprises the Sync Brake System (combined braking system) as standard fitment. Telescopic forks at the front and an adjustable spring at the back handle the shock absorption department.

However, unlike on the Ntorq 125, the console on the Jupiter Grande misses the turn-by-turn navigation function. The smartphone app also records the ride data.

Apart from the additional Bluetooth-enabled console, the upcoming Jupiter Grande also gets a new Tech Blue (glossy) paint scheme and diamond-cut alloy wheels. The seat comes with a brown cover and a cross-stitch design while the footboard gets a beige colour. Chrome highlights on the front fender, rearview mirror housing, LED headlight and instrument console give a premium touch to the scooter. Other mechanical and hardware specifications remain unchanged.

The new scooter is powered by the familiar BS-IV 109.7 cc air-cooled OHC engine that delivers 8 PS of peak power at 7,500 rpm and 8.4 Nm of max torque at 5,500 rpm.
