This is the new Pearl Blue-Silver dual-tone colour option of the TVS Star City Plus.

The TVS Star City Plus is now available in a brand-new Pearl Blue-Silver dual-tone colour option. This livery will be available with the motorcycle’s both drum and disc brake variants. The new paint scheme looks quite attractive. The blacked-out alloy wheels, engine, and exhaust bring a hint of sportiness as well. The latest colour option refreshes things up a bit and should be able to lure in more buyers.

The new Pearl Blue-Silver dual-tone colour option of the TVS Star City Plus will be available at the same price tag as the other paint schemes of the commuter’s drum and disc brake variants. TVS Motor Company is not asking anything premium for the new livery, which is a good thing. So, the TVS Star City Plus in its new dual-tone shade with drum brake will set you back by INR 65,865* whereas the same colour option with the disc brake retails at INR 68,465*.

Apart from the addition of the new dual-tone colour option, no other changes have been made to the motorcycle. TVS Star City Plus Now Available w/ Front Disc Brake [Video] https://indianautosblog.com/tvs-star-city-plus-disc-brake-p322734 Wed, 03 Mar 2021 04:33:50 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=322734 The new TVS Star City Plus was teased last week. The Hosur-based company had released a teaser image and we reported that the updated model of the commuter would come equipped with a front disc brake. Well, we were right. The new TVS Star City Plus has been launched and it indeed features a front disc brake.

To improve the braking performance of the Star City Plus, TVS Motor Company has now added a front disc brake which the two-wheeler giant likes to call as ‘Roto Petal Disc’. It appears that the firm has taken this step based on customer feedback. Unfortunately, there’s no ABS on offer. Interestingly, the new Bajaj Platina 110 ABS has become the first motorcycle in its segment to offer a single-channel ABS. It will be launched very soon. TVS Motor Company could have used this opportunity and incorporated ABS in the new Star City Plus.

Apart from the addition of the front disc brake, no other changes have been incorporated in the new TVS Star City Plus. The commuter continues to come with an LED headlamp, long and comfortable seat, sporty dual-tone muffler, dual-tone rearview mirrors, and attractive graphics. The semi-digital instrument cluster shows various necessary information. There’s also a USB charger socket and a maintenance-free battery. The suspension setup on the commuter includes a pair of conventional telescopic forks upfront and 5-step adjustable hydraulic twin rear shock absorbers.

8.08bhp and 8.7Nm, that’s what the 110cc single-cylinder Eco Thrust engine of the Star City Plus produces. The motor features TVS Motor Company’s ETFi technology which enhances the overall performance and fuel efficiency. For the transmission, there’s a 4-speed gearbox.

That’s a hike of INR 8,532 over the BS-IV version. The new TVS Star City Plus offers a 15% higher fuel economy, smoother power delivery and improved durability. Lower maintenance cost is another benefit of the new model.

Tvs Star City Plus Bs Vi
The TVS Star City Plus in the BS-VI version is 15% more fuel-efficient than in the BS-IV version.

At the heart of the TVS Star City Plus is the same 109.7 cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine but the compression ratio has increased from 9.65:1 to 10.0:1. The fuel-air mixture is now supplied to the intake valve via an Eco Thrust fuel-injection system instead of a carburettor. The maximum power output is down to 8.2 PS (down from 8.4 PS), while the peak torque has remained unchanged at 9.70 Nm. The weight has increased by 7 kg to 116 kg.

BS-VI TVS Star City Plus teased, to be launched on 25 January [Video] https://indianautosblog.com/bs-vi-tvs-star-city-plus-launch-25-january-video-p319506 Tue, 21 Jan 2020 11:53:21 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=319506 Apart from the launch of the BS-VI Apache RR 310 on 30 January, TVS Motor Company has scheduled another event that will take place on 25 January. While TVS Motor Company did not reveal any details about the product in the invitation, the teaser video of the BS-VI Star City Plus it has uploaded on its website indicates that we are about to witness the launch of the BS-VI Star City Plus.

The teaser video of the BS-VI Star City Plus reveals that it will benefit from a full LED headlight. We may also see some tweaks to the instrument cluster to add more premium-ness to the commuter segment motorcycle. We also expect to see new graphics on the BS-VI TVS Star City Plus to distinguish itself from the outgoing version.

The technical specifications, too, will witness major upgrades, and the BS-VI Star City Plus will receive fuel injection system. The displacement is not likely to undergo any changes, and we expect the BS-VI version to continue to feature a 109.7 cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled motor. The power and torque output may witness a marginal decline from the BS-IV motorcycle’s 8.4 PS at 7,000 rpm and 8.7 Nm at 5,000 rpm figures. The fuel economy, on the other hand, is likely to be better than the old (BS-IV) version's. The same (BS-VI) motor should also power TVS Motor Company’s other 110 cc models – the Radeon and the Victor.

The hardware specifications are not likely to change in the BS-VI transition, and the Star City Plus should continue to use drum brakes on both wheels. The safety net will retain the CBS tech. Shock absorption duties will be handled by conventional telescopic forks at the front and preload-adjustable twin-sided springs at the back.

It is safe to assume that the updated model will carry a premium over the old (BS-IV) Star City Plus, and we could see a price difference of INR 5,000-7,000. The BS-IV model, for reference, is priced from INR 53,502 (ex-showroom Delhi).

Review - TVS Star City+ https://indianautosblog.com/tvs-star-city-review-p136641 Thu, 10 Jul 2014 12:01:12 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=136641 TVS' aggressive product launch strategy over the past two years is very hard to miss. Following the Jupiter and the Phoenix, TVS recently launched a much-needed upgrade to its commuter bike, the TVS Star City. However, the upgrade is much more comprehensive than the '+' suggests.

The Star City+ has been redesigned from the ground up, with very little carried over from its predecessor.

The bike was first showcased at the Auto Expo 2014. Immediately, it was evident that TVS had worked on the styling of the motorcycle. Visually, the Star City+ looks entirely different from its predecessor. Noticeable changes to the body panels on the fuel tank and the headlamp cowl along with the exhaust and the panels under the rear seat have been redesigned.

The upgraded bike gets the same 110 cc engine as in the TVS Jupiter and the TVS Wego.

Overall quality has also gone up on the Star City+. Build quality is significantly better, with better quality switches and sturdier levers at the fingers and the feet. The company has also provided the bike with a refreshed instrument cluster, with a small digital screen doubling up as a fuel level indicator and odometer. The centre portion is taken up by a big speedometer in a white background. Other indicators for service check, neutral, high beam and turn indicators surround this big display.

TVS Star City+ engine
The 110 cc engine is peppy in the low-mid range of the rev band and is quite fun to ride in moving traffic conditions.

Ergonomically, the Star City+ scores highly. Almost every switch and leg rest is where you'd expect them to be. However, the pass switch is positioned pretty high, needing a reaching finger. As far as the riding position is concerned, the rider takes a rather upright riding posture. However, thanks to the well-positioned handle bar, you don't have to swoop down too much. This position would go well with the young audience that TVS has in mind for this bike.

The handy and functional new instrument panel also has a digital console to show fuel level and the odometer.

TVS has provided the Star City+ with the EcoThrust engine that also powers the TVS Wego and the TVS Jupiter. The different engine gives the new model a very slight upgrade in power of about 0.12 hp and 0.6 Nm. This increase in power, however, is available at a much lower 5,000 rpm instead of the 7,000 rpm it was at in the previous version.

TVS Star City+ fuel tank detail
Design changes on the new bike include more curves on the fuel tank fall and an overhaul of the engine cover.

This translates to a significant change in the riding of the Star City+. The bike makes for easy and hasty riding till 65-70 kph. Running through the four-speed gearbox is smooth and provides good acceleration. The bike is eager to get you out of stand still and can make for some fun riding in traffic conditions. Darting through the gaps in city traffic is made easy with the Star City+'s frame that's ready to shift direction at your guiding.

The all-gear electric start is a boon in traffic, but an engine kill switch would have come in very handy.

However, ask of the bike to power you past the 70 kph mark and it would protest, rather audibly. The engine peters out around the 60 kph, to which it will eagerly climb. Anything more is a bit of a struggle and above 70 kph really stresses the engine. There's just not enough power to give. Thankfully, this does not translate to vibration on the handles and foot pegs at higher speeds, as the bike is very stable even when the engine struggles to go in sync with the throttle.

TVS Star City+ front suspension
Telescopic suspension at the front combines with the 5-step adjustable rear suspension to make for a supple ride.

An issue with the bike IAB was provided with was the fuel indicator. The indicator had a mind of its own, showing 2 bars at one point and 4 after you turn the bike off and on again. TVS would do well to investigate for problems with the fuel level sensor.

TVS Star City+ foot peg
Ergonomically, the TVS Star City+ scores high except for the pass switch.

What does work extremely well in the bike is the brakes. The drum brakes at both ends provide more than adequate stopping power and inspires a lot of confidence, egging you to explore the sweet spot of the bike between the 2nd and the 4th gears where it really comes to life. Combine the very able brakes with the Star City+'s suspension and you have a very enjoyable experience. The telescopic suspension at the front and the 5-step adjustable suspension at the rear make for an extremely supple ride, gliding you over the soft mounds and pot holes. Specially developed tyres from TVS Tyres also pitch in to give some great grip on city roads.

Powerful drum brakes at both ends provide excellent stopping power.

In many ways, the Star City+ is a Hail Mary for TVS in the commuter segment. Pitted against the likes of the Honda Dream Yuga, Mahindra Centuro and Hero's numerous offerings, the Star City+ simply had to perform for the company to make any dent on the segment. The company's engineers and designers have complied with the demands of the segment, though, you do feel an engine kill switch in a bike that can be started on any gear at the push of a button wouldn't be too much to ask for.

The baton now rests with the company's sales and marketing teams to sell what is clearly an able product. Priced at INR 44,000, the bike only needs to be pitched well and it won't be long before the consumers will lap this one up.
