What makes the TVS Scooty Pep+ Mudhal Kadhal Edition special?

Mudhal Kadhal in Tamil means First Love. This model comes with a unique Bronze and Silver colour combination which enhances the overall visual appeal of the scooter. Also, the new graphics look pretty good. TVS has also added a dual-tone (Black and Brown) seat with contrast stitching. The side profile of the new scooter carries its logo, however, it is in Tamil. TVS says that this is a first in the industry. The company has also provided a 3D emblem.

Are there any mechanical changes?

No, there are none. The new Scooty Pep+ uses the same engine which we are already familiar with. It is a 87.8cc single-cylinder motor which produces 5.36 hp of max power and 6.5 Nm of peak torque. The suspension setup remains unchanged, too. As far as the braking is concerned, both the ends have a 110mm drum brake.

TVS has implemented no significant visual changes in the new Scooty Zest 110 BS6.

The new TVS Scooty Zest 110 BS6 would have been introduced in the domestic market earlier but, perhaps, the Covid-19 health situation in the country might have forced the company to delay the launch of the more eco-friendly two-wheeler.

Top 10 best-selling automatic scooter in India - June 2019 https://indianautosblog.com/top-10-automatic-scooter-in-india-june-2019-p318004 Tue, 30 Jul 2019 05:24:16 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=318004 Automatic scooters form a major chunk of two-wheeler sales in India. However, they have been affected due to the ongoing economic slump. Scooter had a market share of 32% in June 2018, and in June 2019, the market share was at 31%. That’s despite the fact that the Indian two-wheeler market has shrunk by nearly 12%. The Honda Activa continues to be a major crowd puller but its magic wand may have seemed to have lost a few stars. The Splendor has overtaken the Activa once again but the gap was just around 6,000 units in June 2019. TVS Jupiter also lost on volumes but continues to be in the second spot.

The shining light though is the Suzuki Access 125 which continues to be the largest selling 125 cc scooter. Besides that, Access 125 has also shrunk the gap from Jupiter to a little less than 8,000 units. Here is the list of the top 10 best-selling automatic scooters in India in June 2019:

Honda Activa: Powering the next two-wheeler revolution

Honda Activa 5G front at 2018 Auto Expo
Honda Activa 5G sales stood at 2,36,739 units sold in June 2019.

With 2,36,739 units sold in June 2019, things are in the red for the Honda Activa. In fact, a 26% drop in sales in the first quarter of FY 2019-20 may seem pretty grim. However, Honda can still pull off stellar sales in the upcoming festive season. In fact, June was the company's best-ever performance in this fiscal. Prices of the Honda Activa start at INR 54,911 (ex-showroom, Delhi). Honda even introduced a Limited Edition Activa recently to with some cosmetic changes to get the volumes up.

The Honda Activa is powered by a time tested 109.19 cc mill. Key features include a mix of digital and analogue instrumentation, LED headlamp and Eco Speed Indicator. Also available is a service due indicator and a 4-in-1 lock with seat opening switch.

TVS Jupiter: The one that got away

Tvs Jupiter Zx Disc Brake Variants Left Front Quar
The TVS Jupiter underwent a minor drop in sales and registered 56,254 units in June 2019.

While the TVS Jupiter did see a drop in sales, the numbers still hold strong. That’s really commendable during this slowdown. TVS even introduced the updated version of Jupiter ZX with an LED headlamp and a combo of digital and analogue instrumentation. That places the Jupiter fair and square against the Honda Activa 5G.

Prices for the TVS Jupiter begin at INR 52,945 (ex-showroom, Delhi) and you get to choose from a variety of colour options. Besides that, the features list includes an external fuel filler cap and a special easy use main stand. Volumes in June 2019 stood at 56,254 units in June 2019.

Suzuki Access 125: To greater heights

Suzuki Access125 Se Metallic Matte Bordeaux Left S
The Suzuki Access 125 is now available in a new Metallic Matte Bordeaux Special Edition colour scheme.

The rise of Suzuki Access 125 has been phenomenal. Volumes grew by 16% in the first quarter of FY 2019-20. In June 2019, volumes stood at 49,366 units which is a significant Y-o-Y growth from 38,338 units last year. Prices of the Suzuki Access 125 begin at INR 57,219 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The scooter boasts a large 21.5-litre under-seat storage, DC charging socket and a handy front pocket to store things.

Suzuki recently introduced a new colour option with a Limited Edition model of the Access 125. The Limited Edition variant is now offered in Metallic Matte Bordeaux, Metallic Sonic Silver, Metallic Matte Black and Pearl Mirage White.

Honda Dio: India’s most exported automatic scooter

2018 Honda Dio Deluxe press yellow
The Honda Dio continues to be India's most exported automatic scooter.

The guys at Honda 2Wheelers India managed to find 43,749 new buyers for Honda Dio in June 2019. The numbers have grown in the domestic market for the Dio but their trouble lies elsewhere. Dio continues to be largest exported automatic scooter from India but volumes dropped from more than 52,478 units in Q1 FY 2018-19 to just 29,756 units in FY 2019-20. Hopefully, things will be better in the next quarter for them.

The Honda Dio's prices begin at INR 53,218 (ex-showroom, Delhi). Some of its main features include LED headlamp, all-digital instrumentation and 4-in-1 lock with seat opening switch.

TVS NTorq: Smartness has a new name

TVS Ntorq 125 left side action first ride review
The sporty TVS NTorq is in the 5th spot in June 2019 with 21,738 new customers.

The TVS NTorq has climbed up to the 5th spot with 21,738 new customers in June 2019. The introduction of a drum brake variant has certainly helped in increasing the sales of the scooter. Features like connected instrumentation with navigation and call alerts are its USPs. Prices begin at INR 58,872 (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the entry-level drum brake variant.

At the heart of the TVS NTorq is a 124.79 cc engine producing 9.4 PS of power and 10.5 Nm of torque. TVS even introduced a new Matte Silver colour option in June 2019 which will hopefully help it further increase their sales. The TVS Ntorq competes with products like Honda Grazia, Aprilia SR125 and Hero Maestro Edge 125.

Yamaha Fascino: In desperate need of a change!

Yamaha Fascino Darknight Left Front Quarter
The Yamaha Fascino uses the tried and tested 113 cc mill which also does duty in the Yamaha Ray-Z.

Yamaha took the market with a storm when it launched the Fascino. The automatic scooter was styled to have a modern-retro theme. Volumes may have dropped in the past few months, and in June 2019 the numbers stood at 15,519 units. Yamaha has not updated the Fascino for quite some time and if better pull off a fast one if if wants to grab the market share.

Hero Destini 125: Hero’s answer to Activa 125

Hero Destini 125 Road Test Review Still Shots Fron
The Hero Destini 125 is the only Hero-badged product in this list.

With an able product like TVS Scooty, scooter riders are now achieving feats that only riders with powerful bikes and off-road vehicles have been able to do with ease. The Scooty Zest 110 is the first scooter to conquer the Khardung La Pass in 2015 and TVS has repeated the feat with a group of adventurous women in 2016.

11 riders on the TVS Scooty Zest 110 Himlayan High

In 2015, Anam Hashim became the first woman on a scooter to reach the highest motorable road in the world- Khardung La from Jammu in a TVS Scooty Zest 110. Fast forward 2016 and the TVS has successfully completed this feat with a larger group, demonstrating that an adventurous heart plus a Scooty Zest is all you need to conquer any hard terrain, mountain slopes or unfavourable weather.

11 Women on 11 TVS Scooty Zest scooters rode the Khardung La Pass. Comprising of woman across age groups and backgrounds, the Himalayan Highs brings you the story of their journey, the accomplishment, the bonds forged and all the highs of the escapade with TVS Scooty Zest 110. As the riders say, this was a journey of incredible experiences and these bikes have become a huge part of their lives through the journey.

Shruthi Naidu puts it this way - "I came across rain, sun, wind and dust. I'm sure I'm not going to get this again in one single ride."

Since the time the journey has been talked about in media, it has inspired many more to explore their Highs. One such person is Mr. Amit Masurkar (of the Sulemani Keeda fame) who decided to interpret these highs from his perspective. He captured the friendship, colours, Selfies, Anticipation and Zest of regular people around us who carry some great stories which one just fails to notice otherwise.

Megha Chakraborty echoes the feeling of the 10 other history makers when she says "I am bitten by the riding bug now," as they struggle to say goodbye to their loyal steeds at 18,380 feet.

The TVS Scooty Zest is a favourite among the scooter riders in India. It has proven time and again that it is powerful and can battle through any terrain or distance effortlessly.

TVS Scooty Zest 110 and the Himalayan Journey - Part 3* https://indianautosblog.com/himalayan-journey-tvs-scooty-zest-110-p212817 Sat, 23 Jan 2016 17:14:31 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=212817 Make sure you read Part 1 and Part 2 of this epic journey.

The first thing that comes to mind when one hears the word “Scooter” is “not fast, definitely not for the bad boys”. Well, if you did think that, then you wouldn’t be the only one. What perhaps you didn’t know is that TVS has manufactured a modern day version of the old school scooter, which is perhaps the first scooter to be able to break all stereotypes. Why you may ask? Well, did you ever think that a scooter could reach the top of the world – literally. The TVS Scooty Zest 110 has become the first scooter with a woman rider - Anam Hashim, to reach the highest motorable road in the world – Khardung La. Here’s what made this feat possible.

TVS Scooty Zest 110 on mountain roads

There are many things to boast about for this is the latest scooter from the TVS family. Its features include best in class mileage at 62 kmph, best in class storage at 19 litres, easiest road handling and best pick up. These are only a few of the features that make this scooter top notch.

Driving from Jammu to Khardung La is no easy task. Any avid rider with a motor bike will tell you that. The roads are extremely dangerous. You are lucky if you find a stretch of tarred roads, because more often than not, the roads are rocky, the land is barren and the journey is exhausting. One of the first things Anam noted on her journey with the TVS Scooty Zest 110 was how easy it was to manage. It is lightweight, which makes riding past heavy load vehicles a piece of cake. Adding to this experience was the telescopic front and back suspension. Majority of this journey was on rocky terrain, but this scooter seemed unfazed.

With an 110cc engine that powered through the Himalayas, the adventurous scooter yet again proved how it has evolved. With the tubeless tires, even the most dreaded roads seemed easier. With ascents and descents that are common in this mountainous region, the brakes on this scooter were perhaps the safest. At no point did it refuse to start even after many nights of subzero temperatures.

TVS Scooty Zest hill climb

On these long and arduous journeys, comfort is considered almost a luxury. With the wider, double stitched and more comfortable seats, the voyage to the top wasn’t as hard on the body as one imagines sitting for long hours on a scooter to be. To add to this comfort was the textured floor board that made sure Anam was always sure footed on the road. The journey to Khardung La from Jammu took 18 days. What’s more it was completed without any hiccups. At no point did the TVS Scooty Zest 110 need to be taken to a mechanic.

So the next time you see a TVS Scooty Zest 110 on the road, just remember that the adventurous scooter has been to the Himalaya’s and back without a glitch, something many other motorbikes wish they could say.

TVS Scooty Zest 110 and the Himalayan Journey - Part 2* https://indianautosblog.com/tvs-scooty-zest-110-and-the-himalayan-journey-part-2-p212292 Wed, 20 Jan 2016 11:21:59 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=212292 You can read Part 1 of this epic journey here.

They don’t call the Khardung La ride ‘The Mother of All Rides’ for nothing. “You need to be extremely fit to take on a journey under such harsh weather, sub-zero temperature, tough riding conditions and bouts of altitude sickness. But being a fitness freak I was prepared for such a ride,” Anam said in an interview to a leading newspaper. It definitely takes a seasoned rider to deal with altitude sickness, deadly roads, lack of oxygen and reckless lorry drivers. To top it all, Anam was riding solo!

TVS Scooty Zest 110 travels to Khardung La 18380 ft

The third leg of this journey would take her from Kargil towards Leh and then the famous Khardung La.

After being stationed at Kargil for the night, it was an early morning start for Anam and the TVS Scooty Zest 110. This part of the journey saw her ride past surprised and inquisitive convoys of army trucks, which are a little bit tough to overtake on these dangerous roads. However, some stretches saw Anam enjoy the top speed of the scooter to its fullest. Having soon passed two more milestones, Namik La and Fotu La, she finally made entry into the picturesque town of Leh.

The real test was to come the following day. Although only a distance of 50 kilometers separated her from the gorgeous Khardung La, this was one of the most dangerous roads in the Indian Subcontinent.

TVS Scooty Zest 110 travels to Khardung La Tigers

She started her journey the next morning. The higher she got, the less comfortable she felt, as the oxygen level at these extreme heights tends to deplete. To add to her uneasiness, the roads were far from perfect. They were rocky and had sharp turns; the gutsy scooter however had no problem trying to maneuver through. The easy handling, lightweight and telescopic suspension, were the perfect combination when it came to riding to the top. Realizing this Anam was soon unfazed. Excited, yet alert Anam rode on, on her TVS Scooty Zest 110, eyes wide open as she summited the highest motorable road in the world!
